BIG RAPIDS -- Police and the Mecosta County Sheriff's Department are expected to continue their search today for convicted murderer Jonathan J. Good, 36, who escaped from the county jail three days ago and remained at large late Friday.
Officials said Good, who was sentenced in a murder case in Wayne County in 1988, escaped on Wednesday wearing only shoes, a T-shirt and white underwear, but may have since obtained clothing and changed his appearance by cutting his hair.
Police say he may be armed and presents a danger to the Ferris State University campus and the area.
They were checking to see if Good broke into an empty home or apartment in the college town during the Thanksgiving break.
"We're going around knocking on doors and as students are returning to campus, we're accompanying them right up to their door and escorting them into their residences," Sheriff John Sonntag said Friday night.
"We're working it around the clock."
Good was being held on kidnapping and attempted murder charges and accused of being part of a March break-in when he fled the jail through a skylight onto a roof.
The jail is near the college campus.
He was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in 1988 on a second-degree murder conviction for shooting a man with a .22-caliber rifle and stealing his pickup truck.
In Mecosta County, Good is suspected of being the ringleader of a group of teenage thieves implicated in a string of burglaries, a home invasion and a shooting.
Sheriff's officials say people who see Good should call 911 and not approach him.
