Single-car crash kills I-580 driver

A 39-year-old man driving a white Volkswagen Jetta died early Sunday in a crash on Interstate 580 in Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver, an Oakland resident who has not yet been identified, apparently drifted onto the shoulder, then veered suddenly back to the left before losing control of his car. The 2002 Jetta flipped over onto its roof and came to a rest on the right shoulder, CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said today.
The accident occurred at 3:07 a.m., just west of the Keller Avenue exit. The driver was alone in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Officer M. Barday at the Oakland CHP office at (510) 450-3821.
