Shawnee went to Texas Sunday to interview a man suspected of killing his girlfriend the day before Thanksgiving.
Brandon Nicholas Reed, 23, was arrested Saturday evening in rural Dimmit County, Texas, hours after his burning car was found.
Police said they issued a warrant for Reed's arrest in the killing of Christina D. Osburn.
Authorities in Texas found Reed's car on fire Saturday on a highway between Carrizo Springs and Catarina. A truck driver told authorities he saw a man -- later determined to be Reed -- walk away from the burning car.
Reed was arrested in Texas at 7:30 p.m. in a joint effort by the Border Patrol and the local city authorities just outside of Catarina.
Reed tried to flag down a vehicle whose driver then notified authorities, according to the news release from the Metro Squad. He was in custody Saturday night in Dimmit County, Texas.
The 21-year-old Osburn's body was found shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday in her apartment at the Nieman Square Apartments at 11321 W. 64th Terrace.
Police said they think she was killed late Wednesday. They have not released how she died.
Osburn's family called police after she didn't show up for Thanksgiving dinner.
Police said domestic violence had marred Osburn and Reed's yearlong relationship, and he has been charged with domestic violence before.
