Additional state police will roam Ogle County roads and highways in December, looking for speeders and drivers who aren’t wearing seat belts.

State Police District 1 Commander Joel Peters announced today that state police will bump up patrols on state highways 2, 26, 38 64, 72, 251 and 39, and U.S. Route 52.

“Speeding is one of the most prevalent factors contributing to traffic crashes,” Peters said in a written statement. “Here in Illinois, 39 percent of all crash fatalities are due in part to speeding.”

State police also received additional funding to patrol Ogle County and Whiteside County roads in November.

Enforcement figures totaled 247 arrests and 92 written warnings, including 187 arrests for speeding.

One driver was cited for driving on a suspended license and 15 citations were issued for driving without insurance. Thirty-two tickets were handed out to drivers who were not wearing their seat belts.
