More than 190 non-compliant sex offenders were arrested throughout the state during the latest sweep of the Michigan State Police initiative Operation Verify.
The fifth such statewide sweep was conducted from Oct. 20-31. Officers conducted 3,194 residence checks on registered offenders, made 196 arrests and requested an additional 682 arrest warrants for violations of the Michigan Sex Offenders Registration Act.
Offenders convicted of a misdemeanor offense are required to verify their address once a year with local law enforcement. Felony offenders are required to verify four times a year. Failure to do so is a graduated penalty ranging from a 93-day misdemeanor to a four-year felony.
