Highway Patrol Increasing Efforts this Holiday Weekend

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- The Thanksgiving weekend is always one of the busiest of the year for Florida's roadways, and frequently is one of the deadliest.
To keep fatal crashes to a minimum, the Florida Highway Patrol is stepping up its patrols.
All troopers normally on administrative duties, plus auxiliary and reserve troopers, will be on patrols for the 5-day weekend.
Florida Highway Patrol Director John Czernis has a simple but effective message for travelers. "Allow yourself plenty of time to reach your destination safely, drive sober, and buckle up on each and every trip."
Also, the FHP urges people on the roads to use their cell phones (safely) to report drunk or aggressive drivers. That number is *FHP. The number is also for reporting broken down vehicles.
The Move Over Law will be enforced as well. The law requires drivers to move over when an emergency vehicle is stopped on the side of the road with its emergency lights on. If you aren't able to move over, slow down and pass safely.
People who break this law will be given a ticket.
There's another feature the FHP is promoting: registering your emergency contact information on the internet.
