A 25-year-old man last night drove off a Marriottsville road, crashed into a tree and died after his sport utility vehicle burst into flames, according to the Maryland State Police.
Troopers from the Westminster barracks responded to the single-vehicle collision just before 9 p.m. on Henryton Road, near Marriottsville Road, authorities said today. The troopers and civilians tried to free the driver and extinguish flames that had engulfed the green 1999 Ford Explorer but were unsuccessful, according to a state police news release.
The victim, Dustin Richard Lippert, 25, died from his injuries. He lived in the 7300 block of Pershing Place in Marriottsville.
In a preliminary investigation, state police found that Lippert's vehicle crossed the center double yellow line, left the road and hit a tree. An investigation into the collision's cause is continuing, the state police said.
