81-year-old man struck, killed on I-95 in city

An 81-year-old Baltimore man was struck and killed on Interstate 95 in Southwest Baltimore last night, and authorities were seeking help from witnesses and drivers in their investigation.
The pedestrian, identified this afternoon as Haywood Bass, was struck numerous times about 10:45 p.m. in the southbound lanes in the area of Caton Avenue, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police, which is investigating the man's death. All southbound lanes were closed as the police investigated the incident, and traffic was detoured to the Caton Avenue exit.
Bass was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The medical examiner has determined that at least two vehicles and a tractor-trailer hit the man.
Witnesses and drivers who think they might have struck an object in the road are asked to call the agency's collision reconstruction unit at 443-324-8894.
