Three die in traffic crashes over the holiday

SAN DIEGO – Three people died in traffic crashes in San Diego County over the Thanksgiving holiday, compared with five deaths locally during the same period in 2007, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.
Statewide, traffic crashes claimed 29 lives between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, compared with 41 traffic deaths during the same period a year ago, said CHP Officer Ray Sanchez.
Advertisement CHP officers in San Diego County made 119 DUI arrests during that period, compared with 137 such arrests a year ago.
Statewide, 1,530 DUI suspects were arrested, compared with 1,638 DUI arrests over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2007.
The number of fatalities reflects deaths reported by all law enforcement agencies in California. The DUI arrests are those made only by CHP officers.
